Is it recommended to fasten brace before drilling?
2x8 HR Floor Joist Hole Repair Kit
I need to move a 3" waste drain over 2' to the other side of a 2x8 joist. I'm not able to box out the framing, so it's looking like the only option is to drill it. I don't have access underneath to install temporary support, so my options are limited.
Do you recommend fastening the brace prior to drilling? Hopefully I can make this work. This product just might save my remodel plans!

It usually doesn't matter if you drill or brace first. But assuming the worst case, on a 2x8 that is 7.25" and you remove 4" of wood in the vertical center, it could deflect down. So safer to brace first.
